It’s a little chilly outside but you want to get out of the house and you’re wondering… What can I do with my kid(s)? Is there something we can do downtown? Well we are here to help! In fact, we’ve even tested it out for you!
Sweet Treats
Downtown does not lack in a place to grab some sweet treats! Is it a cold day? Maybe go to Honeymoon Bakery or Bake and Bloom and grab a cupcake or cookie! Don’t forget you can watch them make those sweet treats in their baking window inside. How fun?!
Is it unseasonably warm? We have plenty of ice cream options, from Mountain’s Ice Cream with their hand dipped ice cream to Honeycream with their artisan gelato. And don’t forget City Creamery with their frozen yogurt and multitude of candy options. Don’t forget to stop by Swift & Finch so you can keep up with the sugared up kiddos!
HeART Project
Have you walked by the Town Green lately? The Rome Area Council for the Arts and AdventHealth Redmond have teamed up to add some beautiful temporary public art to our 3rd Ave parking deck. There are a multitude of different creations hanging along the side of the Town Green that kids would love to look at.
Rome Area History Center
Need something free to do inside with the kids? That’s where the Rome Area History Center comes in! They are open 10am-5pm Wednesday through Saturday and it has recently been updated. Explore the history of Rome and even have fun with some of the interactive exhibits, such as driving a steam boat down one of our rivers or talking on an old-timey telephone. It even now ends at the Georgia’s Rome Gift Shop where you can find locally made goods and the best Rome gear.
Craft Time
The Rome Area History Center has also started offering monthly craft classes! The kids class starts at 4pm and varies in cost, but is usually pretty low. There is also an adult class at 6pm that’s more intricate and does cost a little more. The costs change for each class depending on the project, but you can be sure you will have a fun time and end up with a great creation!
Want more ideas? Stay tuned! We’ll do another in this series when it gets a little warmer with more ideas outside! Until then, we hope you and the whole family can enjoy Downtown Rome whether it’s learning it’s history or enjoying a delicious treat!
