In 2012, the DDA Promotion Committee attempted to do something that
has never been done before in downtown. The street was closed to traffic and the first block party was held on the 200 block of Broad Street as the final September First Friday Concert. It was a huge success! Droves of Romans flocked to the streets to experience an outdoor concert atmosphere like no other. Around 4,000 attendees danced, mingled, relaxed, and socialized elbow-to-elbow on Broad Street as the sun went down creating the perfect night. Jay Shell, Chairman of the DDA Promotions Committee stated, “The block parties have been wonderful events. They are huge not only for businesses downtown, but for the citizens as well. It’s a great time to get out with your family/ friends and enjoy an evening of free entertainment.” The First Friday finale concert will take place on the 300 and 400 blocks of Broad Street and will feature one of the Southeast’s most sought after entertainment groups, INFINITY SHOW BAND. The concert starts at 7pm sharp and ends at 10pm. No coolers will be allowed within the event area. Adult beverages may be purchased from restaurants within the two blocks and taken out on the street. An area just for kids will also be on site. Create memories!
