We’ve got some exciting news to share –
the Downtown Dining District trial has passed!
So… what does this mean for you?! In simplest terms, this means you can stroll through downtown with an adult beverage from one of your favorite establishments. Window shop with a beer in hand, sip on some wine as you lounge at the Town Green, or simply just enjoy your drink as you wait outside for your table at a restaurant.
The trial will run from August to October on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays from 11a.m. to 11p.m. Drinks are allowed on all sidewalks, green spaces and bridges within the areas shown on the map below. No drinks will be permitted in parking decks or parking lots – drinking and driving is still a no go ?
We know change can be a little scary, but we’ve actually had open container at many of our special events over the past 4 years! We’ve also studied and reached out to several Georgia communities that have dining districts (open container) to make sure this would be a good fit for Rome. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive! Dining districts add a vibrancy to downtowns and also have a positive economic impact. Out of all the communities we spoke with, not a single one had seen any negative results other than some additional litter. Rome plans to combat potential litter issues by providing more recycling bins throughout the area.
Ball Corporation has also graciously donated 5,000 aluminum cups for the trial period which are recyclable!
