Our People

 Amanda Carter, Director

Amanda joined the Downtown Development team in January 2012 as Assistant.  She was selected as Director on May 22, 2017. She is a native Roman with a deep-rooted passion of her hometown’s historic downtown district.  Amanda is a 2003 cum laude graduate of Kennesaw State University with a business management degree. She has received the Downtown Development Authority training certification through the Fanning Institute, Atlanta, GA.  In March 2012, she completed the Main Street/Better Hometown City training at the Main Street Institute held in Woodstock, GA.  May 7, 2013 marked her graduation date from the Regional Economic & Leadership Development Academy.  She is a graduate of the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Rome Class of XXXII (2015).  Amanda plans to continue her training in downtown revitalization in order to maintain and grow a vibrant downtown to live, work and play in.

Megan Treglown, Marketing & Events Coordinator

Megan received her Bachelor in Communications specializing in Public Relations, as well as a Master’s in Public Administration, from Jacksonville State University. While at Jacksonville State, Treglown enjoyed her time as a Marching Ballerina during her undergraduate, and later served as a graduate assistant with Residence Life while obtaining her Masters.Treglown was raised right outside of Rome in Plainville and has deep ties to the Rome area. She previously worked at the Rome Braves a total of seven seasons, working consistently with events and promotions.


Becky Smyth, Parking Services Manager

Becky is a native Roman and a graduate of Pepperell High School and Shorter University. Her passion for hometown started as a young child, but truly developed in 1999 when she became a volunteer for various downtown projects such as helping coordinate children’s events during Tour De Georgia,  serving on the Downtown Development Authority’s Promotion and Outreach Committees as well as assisting in projects such as First Friday Concerts from their inception . She became the Parking Services Manager for downtown in 2007. The following year she received her certification as a Nationally Certified Parking Professional from the National Parking Association. In 2010, she completed the Georgia Academy for Economic Development, as well as the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce Leadership Rome Program. Becky enjoys enhancing and updating her knowledge about downtowns and the parking industry. In 2014 she completed the management development program through the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at UGA where she received her Certificate of Local Government Management. Becky also received her Georgia Downtown Development Professional certification from the Georgia Downtown Association and Georgia Department of Community Affairs.  Finally, Becky currently serves as the President of Georgia State Parking Association. She is married to Robert Smyth and a mother to four children ages 5-16.  Becky says she simply loves downtown and being an agent of growth and development in the community she has always called home.

Brittany Griffin, Administrative Clerk for the Office of Downtown Development and Parking Services.

Brittany was raised in a small town in Kentucky and moved to Rome with her husband in 2012.  Though she is not a native Roman, she has found herself right at home in Rome.  She has fallen in love with its deep roots and many historic marvels.  Brittany is a recent graduate of Shorter University where she earned her Bachelor’s in History.  Shortly after graduation, she joined the City of Rome where she provides administrative support for the Downtown Development Authority and Parking Services.  Brittany serves as the primary point of contact when guest arrive, She provides excellent customer service and we are happy to have her as part of the team.


Tommy Justice, Parking Enforcement Officer

Tommy Justice is the newest member of the Parking Office. Tommy joined the City of Rome as the Parking Enforcement Officer in June 2016. Tommy is responsible for writing parking tickets on-street, loading zones, fire lanes and handicapped parking areas in the downtown parking zone, one of his primary responsibilities is to serve as an ambassador for the City of Rome. In addition, he carries with him retail directories to hand out to visitors seeking directions.

Steven currently holds the Chairman position.  He is the owner of Old Havana Cigar, which he has owned since 2003.


Evie McNiece- Vice Chair

Evie is a city commissioner.  This is her second term serving on the DDA Board. She chairs the DDA Parking Committee.

Robert “Bob” is the owner of Johnny’s New York Style Pizza and Seasons Rome. He is the past President of the BID Commission.

David joined the team in 2016.  He owns a State Farm Insurance Agency and oversees the monthly Downtown Coffee Break meetings.

Jay is known for bringing music talent to Rome as owner of Rome Brewing Company (formerly The Brewhouse Music and Grill), northwest Georgia’s premier music venue.  Rome Brewing Company is a downtown brew pub.

Ann is a retired professor from Kennesaw State University, is extensively involved in the arts, and is a downtown resident.

Steve has worked at Citizens First Bank in downtown Rome for many years.  He serves as the VP Private Client Services.
